Camps at the Mercer Museum Summer 2012

The Wild World of Wizarding School
July 9-July 13, 9 a.m.-Noon
Mercer Museum


Calling all first, second, third, and fourth-year witches and wizards! Get sorted into your houses, prepare your wands, and prepare for classes in Potions, Defense Against the Dark Arts, Herbology, Care of Magical Creatures, Quidditch and more. Come one, come all to earn (or lose) points for the House Cup! Wizard dress is highly encouraged. Experience connects history, science, and literature. Ages 8-12. $220/$195 members

 

 

LEGO™ Robotics Workshop – Basics
Monday-Friday, June 25-29, 8:30-11:30 a.m. or 12:30-3:30 p.m., OR July 16-20, 8:30-11:30 a.m., OR July 23-27, 12:30-3:30 p.m. OR Aug. 13-17, 12:30-3:30 p.m., Mercer Museum


Students who have finished grades 2-6 will utilize enhanced "Simple Machines LEGO™ Kits" designed for application in educational settings. Projects will be correlated with artifacts in the museum. Through the interfacing of their LEGO projects with a computer and the application of the syntax language students will learn to develop straight forward programs to operate their creations. All materials proided. $160/$140 members.             
     

 

LEGO™ Robotics Workshop – Intermediate
Monday-Friday, July 16-20 12:30-3:30 p.m., OR Aug. 6-10, 12:30-3:30 p.m., Mercer Museum


Students who have finished grades 3-7, and LEGO Robotics Basics, will utilize "Manufacturing Systems LEGOKits" designed for introducing hands-on technology concepts in an educational setting. Projects will be connected with artifacts in the museum. Additionally, students will be introduced to LEGO MindstormsRCX computer technology. All materials provided.  $160/$140 members.          

 

LEGO™ Robotics Workshop – Advanced I RCX 
Monday-Friday, July 23-27, 8:30-11:30 a.m., Mercer Museum


Students who have finished grades 4-7, and LEGO Robotics Intermediate will develop icon-based computer programs to be downloaded to Mindstorms™ RCX-controlled LEGO mechanisms.The students will learn to enhance the fundamental design and orientation of the basic RCX unit, which is the core of a simple, autonomous robotic device. All materials provided. $160/$140 members.

 

LEGO™ Robotics Workshop – Advanced II NXT
Monday-Friday, August 6-10, 8:30-11:30 a.m., Mercer Museum


Students who have finished grades 5-8, and LEGO Robotics Advanced I, will utilize LEGO Mindstorms NXT 2.0 Kits to introduce them to the fundamentals of robotic construction and programming in a self-paced learning environment. They will learn to develop icon-based, drag-and-drop computer programs that have a chained, flow-chart structure. The projects model certain aspects of real life robotic devices found in industrial, scientific and commercial settings. All materials provided. $160/$140 members.  

 
LEGO™ Robotics Workshop – Advanced III NXT – QUEST
Monday-Friday, August 13-17 • 8:30-11:30 am, Mercer Museum
 

Students who have finished grades 5-8, and Lego Robotics Advanced I – RCX and Advanced II – NXT, will utilize “LEGO Mindstorms NXT 2.0 Materials” to enhance their knowledge in the development and application of the NXT-G language.  They will create simple programs and learn the basic steps for debugging problems. Autonomous test robots will be built to perform a series of tasks, or missions. All materials provided. $160/$140 members.

Camps at Fonthill Museum Summer 2012

Archaeology Camp

July 23-27, Fonthill Museum
9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
 
Learn the basics of archaeology. Excavate artifacts, map discoveries, and interpret finds, just like a real archaeologist! Ages 8-12. $200/$175 members.
Medieval Camp
 
August 6-10, Fonthill Castle
9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
 
Create your own coat of arms, build a castle, illuminate manuscripts and earn your knighthood. Ages 8-12. $225/$200 members.

Regional Summer Camp Welcome Days
In the summer, the Mercer Museums hosts two themed days specifically designed for regional summer camps. These programs include an orientation, a variety of stationed hands-on activities, and an exploration of the museum. The fee for these programs is $8 per camper. Space is limited.
